soon after rosalyn's birth, her parents ventured into a labyrinth owned by a powerful magical organization and stole a broken staff. They went into hiding underground, excavating out a home for themselves, and never left out of fear of being caught. rosalyn grew up here, having no memories of the world outside, with only her parents, a mountain of books, and her mom's robot named malcolm for company. she soon became obsessed with science and engineering, learning from her parents who were both skilled artificers. for years they worked on repairing the staff until an old friend of theirs contacted them for help, at which point they gave it to rosalyn to defend herself with, as well as giving her malcolm, and left. years later, after all her time isolated, surrounded by cold stone walls and bookshelves, unable to talk with anyone besides a robot incapable of thought, the same person who called her parents away sent another message. realizing that her parents were intercepted and never made it to their destination, she set out into the world for the first time to rescue them from captivity.

- she puts so much of herself into a goal that she completely bypasses any sense of self-preservation. this is especially so when it comes to saving her parents, where she's internalized it as being her one reason to be alive above all else
- the only food she had access to for most of her life was the kind that would last without spoiling. her favorite food is hardtack
- she gives names to a lot of her inventions, as a habit from her time spent alone
- the spells she casts are flavored to be different inventions she's made. examples include haste being a motorcycle, revivify being a defibrillator, and heroism being a little speaker with legs that goes up to your ear and shouts encouragement at you.
- she thinks her most treasured memories are of the time she spent with her parents, but in reality they're of the moments she's felt closest to her friends in the adventuring party
- she doesn't use her bed often, instead she just stays up as long as she can and passes out wherever
- her most recurring nightmare is of waking up back in her old home underground, with all her time since having never happened
- she has a habit of touching at the ridges of the gem in her forehead
- moving her facial features is a skill she never really had to learn, so she doesn't know how to make specific expressions on command
- whenever she finishes making something or finds interesting results from an experiment, she'll run to the first friend she can find to show it off and talk all about it. usually she ends up doing this to kuro, another player character, though she'll go to any of the others if he's not nearby.
- as soon as she reaches a certain level of closeness to a friend she'll immediately become incredibly clingy
- she sees crying as being a waste of energy when she could be productive, so she trained herself to stop. she was mostly, but not completely successful.
